I'm glad you have ideas about weapons and combat, but.... combat system in PO will be different than in OB.
In PO combat between two warships could take even a minute. Generally:

1 - ships in combat cannot move between sectors
2 - movement is possible when ships disengage
3 - disengagement is possible when both ships click "disengage" or distance between ships is high enough
4 - after disengagement, next attack is possible after 30 seconds
5 - ships begin combat in random distance
6 - each round ship can do one of two things: try to set desired distance between ships with full power OR try to set desired distance with half power and fire weapons
7 - weapons will fire only when target is in range
8 - accuracy depends on range, target manouver and both players skills
9 - next salvo is possible when weapons reload
10 - no repairs other than performed by specialized equipment are allowed during combat

sounds good......far more depth than OB....also while we're talking about ships how many designs will there be?

Less than in OB. Generally, less ships, less regular weapons, more specials. To make things as simple as possible

Most probably, ports will be much weaker and there will be special ship, weapon and equipment designs designed for ports.

hmm :P . Well we wont know how it works until we try it :twisted: . Atm i like it, it could allow a trader ship to survive an ambush if its got the speed ( Which most ppl do, i like :D ) .

When i said more in depth i meant it'll take longer to fight i meant in omricon you could destroy a enemy (or anybody who was sleeping outside port) in 10 seconds with one click of a button (or two if they were lucky). But i like where this is going and anyway as Paul says anything that we say here is not going to prepare us until we actually play the game.

i see one problem

What if you are a trader and you get attacked?
You cant run and the attackers are hardly going to disengage!

It will be impossible to kill trader within one or two rounds. Besides, weapons will need time to reload, WB will be slower, bla bla bla... Traders will have chance to leave

NPCs? if there are any, is it also going to be like privious round, where they all flock to u if u attack? if so would that make taking them on a little more difficult with all of this?

and kinda on topic, when attacking with other people, would u attack at the same time or would u both attack still depending on ur speed and whatnot?
